Each group at MINIHAUS Munich-Trudering created its own work of art, which was displayed at the summer festival to benefit the Initiative krebskranke Kinder München e.V. . Together with additional donations from the families, this raised 530 euros —a sum that provides support to families facing particularly difficult circumstances.
An Idea with Heart
The idea came about even before the summer festival: In the MINIHAUS art studio, it quickly became clear just how much creativity and enthusiasm the children were putting into their artwork. Based on this, director Azra Smajic and her team came up with the idea of auctioning off the paintings for a good cause.
“We saw that the kids had really created some amazing things. So we thought: Why don’t we auction off the pictures for a good cause?”
Each group created a large, unique painting. To keep the auction as exciting as possible, the parents didn’t know at first which artwork came from which group. That way, the bids were driven solely by personal taste and enthusiasm—not by any connection to their own child. The idea worked: All the paintings found new owners and created a cheerful auction atmosphere. Particularly heartwarming was the reaction of the children, who proudly donated their artwork to a good cause.
Help that goes far beyond medical care
The donation will benefit the initiative "krebskranke Kinder München e.V. " For more than 40 years, the organization has been supporting families whose children have cancer, assisting them both during treatment and on the often long road to recovery.
The services offered include, among other things, social-educational counseling, sibling support, grief counseling, and music, art, and sports therapy. In addition, the initiative helps fund additional psychological, therapeutic, and medical services that are not fully covered by health insurance.
Another key focus is providing long-term support to former patients. Even years after overcoming cancer, health complications can arise that require specialized follow-up care. This is precisely where the initiative’s services come into play.
Why Every Donation Counts
Susann Elsner visited the children and the team at MINIHAUS München Trudering for the official donation presentation. She volunteers for the initiative and, as a mother who has been through this herself, knows how important support is during this time. For her, a donation presentation means much more than simply handing over a sum of money:
"It makes a huge difference whether you simply transfer a donation or can explain in person what happens to the funds and how they help the affected families."
It is precisely this personal interaction that highlights the impact each donation can have. These donations make it possible to provide services that make everyday life easier for children and their families and offer a sense of hope during difficult times.

The fundraising campaign is a powerful example of how even a simple idea can bring people together. The children had a lot of fun creating their artwork, the families supported the auction with great dedication, and together they raised funds that will make tangible help possible.
